Interview with Julian Christian - the man, the myth, the hot guy on Chase the Moon

Julian Christian

Meet Julian Christian - the man, the myth,

the hot guy on Chase the Moon

Hi Julian, it is such a pleasure to work with you again!
The pleasure is all mine Lynn.

How does it feel to be lusted after?
Lol.  I don't think I am lusted after. Maybe liked after.

Rocky
Who gets more fan mail you or Rocky?

My little French Bulldog is the ladies man alright.
Right now we are dead even but I see him pulling away from me real soon.

What do you think is the hardest part about being in the beauty and fashion industry?
Well it's not really that hard because I have other ventures going on in my life. I run 2 clinics for special needs children and I am starting to venture into big wave surfing.

What projects are you currently working on?
I am currently working on a short film called "Hostile Foreclosure"  as well as a TV commercial.

How is life on the beach?
Do you really have to ask, lol. It's my favorite place to be.

What is an average day like in your life?
Wake up at 5 am, go for a few sets of surfing with the sun rise.
Then off to work, and the gym, and rehearsals in the evening.

What is the happiest you have ever been?
I always try to stay happy and live in the moment.

What was the most difficult decision you have ever had to make?
Paper or plastic.

Who are your role models or mentors? Why?
The Reverend Martin Luther King. That man was a leader and my personal hero. To stay so focused in the face of such adversity, wow.

What kind of people do you enjoy being around the most?
Positive, accepting people who are progressive and intelligent.

What is one of your favorite songs?
In a Big Country by the Scottish band Big Country.

What are the 5 things you can’t live without?
Oxygen, H2O, Vitamins, Minerals and sushi.

What’s your motto or life advice that you life by?
It's all good.

How can your fans keep in touch?
Facebook is the best way to reach me.
I have a fan page and a personal page.

Thanks Julian!

New Year Hop

New Year Hop

It's the New Year,  I have many goals I wish to hit this year, one of which is finishing War of Hearts.

I am a bit behind, okay I'm a lot behind. But delving into the past can be tedious. It is a delectable mix of truth and fiction. You want to add enough history to teach but not enough to bore. So I throw in snippets here and there. Like weaving a fine tapestry.

So I am offering you a sneek peek. Here is Chapter 1 From War of Hearts. It still in draft mode but I love comments!

Please tell me what part of history you would love to live in.

Chapter 1
Bitterness of Winter

Blood spattered upon her face. Sarah ignored it as she moved to put pressure on the gaping wound; she hoped to diminish the flow in the process. As the doctor began to saw through the bone, a grating sound filled the air. It was made more horrible by the shrieks of the man on the table.

Her arms burned, as she used all her strength to subdue him, so the doctor could work. Soon, the limb was free and the man gasped for breath as the pain subsided. The doctor folded the flesh over the gaping hole and Sarah carried the lifeless limb to the open window, and tossed it outside to the growing pile.
Once upon a time, this would have disturbed her greatly. However, being an Army nurse had hardened her heart to many things. War was hell. And she was in the midst of it.

A hand touched her shoulder and she turned to look into kind eyes. Go rest for a spell. You look exhausted. Her friend Margaret intoned. She glanced around the room at the others needing treatment. There was no rest for them, as they waited for the blade.

Even though it had been months with no fighting, the bitterness of winter was taking its toll. Due to lack of sufficient shelter and clothing many men have been afflicted with frostbite. The blackened appendages had to be removed to give them a chance at life.

The next soldier was in better shape and Sarah’s thoughts wandered as she massaged his feet. Winter had always been her favorite time of year. And living in New Jersey, they could be fierce. The crops had been harvested, food had been stored, and there was not much to do once the snow came. She recalled bundling up to care for the livestock, and admonishing her mother for making her wear a scarf. The rough wool always itched her neck.

Seems to be a fair amount of sickness in camp. The man stated in a gruff voice as he looked around.
No, more than yesterday. Sarah replied, wondering if the man was ignorant or just making conversation.
Would you say about half? He inquired further.

Sarah’s hands stilled. She looked down at his feet noticing not only were they not that damaged from the frost, but thick and hardy as well. An uneasiness came over her, as her glance took in the man’s gently worn clothing. It had been a while since she had seen a man who wasn’t half naked, much less one that was fully clothed with boots and all.

No, I wouldn’t say half. Your feet are worse than I first thought; wait here while I fetch the doctor.
No need, I feel better already. The man sat up, reaching for his boots. Not taking time to put them on, he grabbed them and ran for the door as Sarah shouted after him.

A scuffle ensued as an injured man blocked his path, and he was soon wrestled to the ground. Ignoring her own safety, Sarah knelt over him and searched his pockets. Finding nothing of value she grabbed his boots, thrusting a hand deep inside she felt an edge of paper and pulled it out. The man had ceased struggling, and silence filled the room as she unfolded it. Her heart beat quickly in her chest as a crude sketch of Valley Forge appeared.

A spy.  The map was plucked from her fingers as the man was dragged off to pay for his sins.

Sarah sat in disbelief as a large hand touched her shoulder. Well done.

She looked up at Dr. Radcliff. What will become of him?

He will be questioned, and punished, if found guilty. What gave him away?

He wasn’t dressed in rags. Sarah mumbled looking around at the weary soldiers. She had agonized over her brother Silas’ death for months. However, she was thankful he never had to experience the torment of these men. Silas has been gone a year but right now, it felt like fifty. Sarah had seen so much suffering, and It wore heavily on her heart.

Audiobooks. Love ‘em or hate ‘em?

Audiobooks. Love ‘em or hate ‘em?

Update! Desperado Just went live on Audible.com.

Listen to a free sample!

I have never been a fan of Audible books. Part of the problem is that I already have enough voices in my head and it gets distracting.

I have tried to listen to them while commuting (big mistake) or even doing laundry. I have discovered that I can’t do both at the same time. But some people love audiobooks. And with today’s technology you don’t have to shuffle through a bunch of cd’s or tapes while you're driving.

You just hook up your smart phone, ipad, laptop, ereader, etc, and listen to an mp3. Kind of like a really long song.

I have decided to jump on the Audio band wagon and have my books read by professionals. New implements are in place where once audiobook production would have costs thousands of dollars, costs can now be offset to a more reasonable figure.

And the number of audio listeners are growing. These listeners are much more savvy than myself and many “read” several books a month.

Audiobooks are a whole other beast to publishing. Unlike print books where the Author is acclaimed. In Audio land, it is the Narrator who gets the glory.

Narrators usually come with their own fans, and actually get reviews just on their voices. This talented pool of folks deserve much credit. I couldn’t read for five minutes without my tongue drying up and gasping for breath.  I would much rather leave it for the professionals.

So tell me are you an Audiobook fan?  Why or why not?

Sign up to win a copy of my new audiobooks! They are available soon on itunes, audible and amazon.

Lightning Bugs

Lightning Bugs

I was driving home the other day, and I could just make out some tiny yellow specks out of the corner of my eye. The flashes came from the bushes along side the road, and I instantly knew what they were. Lightning bugs. It had been along time since I had seen lightning bugs. Or perhaps it had been a long time since I had taken the time to NOTICE lightning bugs.
Lightning bugs have always reminded me of my Grandmother’s house. My Grandmother passed away several years ago, and it has been awhile since I had thought of her but seeing those little specks of light brought her memories flooding back to me.
I have about a zillion cousins, and we would get together during the summers at my Grandmother’s house in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This of course was before iPods, video games, cell phones, even VCRS; they did not have those in 1979. To amuse ourselves, we had to interact with nature.
My Grandmother had a vegetable garden, and I can remember sitting on the floor of her living room with my sister and breaking beans for canning. Us kids weren’t allowed to help with the canning which is good because her big, silver pressure cooker always scared me to death! But we were nimble enough to break beans and husk corn under her watchful eye.
Thanks to my Grandmothers endeavors in canning she always had a plentiful supply of mason jars. Mason jars make THE BEST bug catchers. I can recall my Grandmother pounding air holes in the metal caps with a kitchen knife to offer whatever critters we caught a second chance at life. During the day we would catch snails, worms, grasshoppers, and if we were really lucky, frogs.
After dark, we had lightning bugs! (And slugs, but who wants to catch them?) Lightning bugs are marvelous, magical creatures. I always liked to pretend they were fairies. They still amaze me even now. How in the heck do they glow? I remember there being hundreds of them. And no matter how many we caught, there were always tons more.
My Grandmother lived in the country, and there were no street lights. When the sun went down it got dark; REALLY dark. The only lights you could see were the back porch light, the stars, and the tiny miniature flashlights floating through the night.
If you have never caught lightning bugs, it is harder than it looks. It takes skill. Just kidding! They actually fly fairly low to the ground, and they move pretty slow for a flying insect. The tricky part is that we had to use our bare hands and no flashlights.
You have to wander out in the middle of the yard and wait until you see a flash. Then you move closer each time they light up. You can only see them when they are lit so it takes a lot of patience and luck.
It is not easy trying to grab a bug, hold onto a large glass mason jar with no handles, unscrew the outer ring, lift the inner metal seal, pop the bug into the jar and reassemble it all in the dark with tiny hands. Nevertheless, surprisingly we caught a lot of bugs. When we were told to come in, we would make our way back towards the porch light. It was like a beacon in the night guiding ships safely into port.
I always wanted to set my jar of lightning bugs on my nightstand so I could read by lightning bug light. However, unfortunately, they do not all light up at once and if they did you’d have to read very quickly during blinks. But alas! My Grandmother always made us free our captives back into the darkness, and wash our hands before we went to bed. Goodnight Grandma.

I've never really thought about dog food until my Hannah became sick.

I've never really thought about dog food until my Hannah became sick. Read Hannah's story and enter below to win some healthy treats for your dog.

My son Michael and Hannah

I rescued Hannah and her brother Wyatt over four years ago. At her check up in April 2011 she was in perfect health. She came in one day from playing in the yard and I noticed her ears were raw. I assumed she got into a scrape with some critter and took her to the vet. Several rounds of antibiotics, steriods and Vet visits and they finally were on the path to healing. They changed her dog food to a healthier variety, to help her immune system. She still was dropping weight very quickly, she lost 2-3 pounds in a couple of months and her ears were again raw and inflamed. Back to the vet for more tests and medication. Her labs were off a bit so they started her on a liver supplement as well. A recheck in a month and she had started breathing hard. Around December we finally did an xray and found a Mass in her Chest cavity. We were sent to a specialist who did an ultrasound. They wanted to do a biopsy but were unable to get a sample. They treated her for pnemonia and we home with a sackful of meds. My life consisted of giving her medicine, driving to to Vets and holding Hannah. They were finally able to do a biopsy and the results highly suggested lymphoma. By this time, Hannah was so debilitated all she could do was gasp for breath. So I made my decision and let her go. 1-17-2012

Below is a short note I wrote:

The Path Towards the Light by Lynn Hubbard

My dog died today.

It was not by God’s choice, but my own which sorrows me deeply. After seeing her deteriorate as the cancer takes her breath, it is the only kind thing I can do.

Yes, there are specialists, and more tests and more drugs. And I went that path for a while, until that path looked dark and gloomy as well.

But Hannah does not deserve darkness.
She deserves joy and light, so I tearfully make my decision to do what is best for her, which is the hardest path for me.

Rest in Peace Hannah my sweet girl. Rest in peace.

Titanic, The Ship of Dreams, 100 Years Later

re-posted from iseekissimmee.com

Roused from my bed, I made my way to the ship’s deck. The wood creaked beneath my feet as I stepped onto the planks. The chill from the night air wiped the last threads of sleep from my befuddled mind. People were milling about in all manors of dress. Murmurs ran through the crowd, as everyone tried to ascertain the reason for their situation. Then the news came, the unsinkable ship was sinking. As I looked out upon the still ocean, surrounded by nothing but stars, fear crept into my heart.
April 14, 2012 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Titanic disaster.  What better way to honor the fallen than to walk in their footsteps?  Titanic The Experience has full-size replicas of the Grand Staircase and several other rooms.
I have always been fascinated by the Titanic. Having read several books and visiting several other Titanic exhibits, I figured “Titanic the Experience” would be pretty much the same. I was wrong. It was better.
The Orlando attraction offers guided or self-tours through the exhibit.  I highly suggest waiting for a guide. The premise is: you are a first class passenger, and are treated as such. The guide was wonderful, the tour started out with excitement at the maiden voyage of the greatest ship ever built. Then it slowly turns to grim realization that you might not survive. Many froze to death from the frigid water, an iceberg is present so you can experience what 28 degree water feels like.
I was one of the lucky ones, Michael survived as well. Nicholas, well Nicholas wasn’t as lucky. He was lost along with 1516 others.
There was no gift shop on Titanic itself, but there is one at the attraction. You can purchase replicas of China and other amenities which were saved from the deep. They also offer a Titanic Dinner Show, which sounds wonderful, but was out of my budget. They do have a nice selection of books on the tragedy and I picked up a couple, as well as, a ceremonial pin depicting 100 years.
The guided tour took about an hour. I found the tour guide, and the sweet lady in the gift shop to be incredibly knowledgeable and willing to answer questions.
Titanic is going down as one of my favorite attractions!

Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival March 7th – May 20th

Epcot was a big “yes” for my entire family. And what better time to visit than during the Flower and Garden Festival?
The Kids ran off to go Soarin’ while I and my Dad hit  Spaceship Earth This was my first time riding and after only a five minute wait we were back in time. Ironically, it covers how paper was first created and then books. I thought the animated figures were very realistic as they showed man’s progression through time. The slow moving ride should be fine for everyone. I did however, find the air to be stuffy, which did not help my asthma.
Back outside and into the refreshing Florida breeze! We headed over to The Land section to eat breakfast. They had a wide variety, and prices were better than I had expected. Afterwards, we rode Living with the Land. Disney was kind to let us use the fast pass lane, to accommodate my Dad’s walker. This is a boat ride expounding upon the future of farming. The nine pound lemons were a site to behold!
Then the gates open to the World Showcase!  To me, this is the best part of Epcot. To explore different places and cultures that I have only read about. Intermixed with the countries are the stunningly accurate sculptures out of flowers. The Princess couples were my favorite! I selected my favorite pics, but you can see all of them by visiting my shutterfly page.
Did I mention shopping? Epcot is the shoppers paradise! I picked up a lucky owl from Japan, and a statue of Buddha. My mother purchased an authentic Cuckoo Clock from Germany, and my father stocked up on Dragonwell tea in China.
We had lunch at Les Chefs De France in Paris. They offered a three course Meal for $23 which included French Onion soup, a choice of entrĂ©e’s and choice of dessert. I shared it with my son and we had plenty to eat. My youngest son shared the soup as well, but picked out the onions, which completely defeats the purpose of eating French onionsoup!
While you’re in France be sure to see the 18 minute film. It depicts beautiful landscapes and wonderful Castles. Plus, unlike Canada and China, this one has seats!
Epcot is humongous and requires at least two days to get through it properly, but if you have only one, don’t miss the World Showcase!
You still have time to make the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, March 7th - May 20th!
